The New High- Five!!!

Such grace, dignity and good humor after that idiotic jibe from E D Hill on Fox News about a "terrorist first jab."

Do these people on Faux Republican Propaganda live on the same planet with the rest of us?

Have they never in their tiny, blinkered lives ever had the privilege and joy of association with black people - even one or two - to get to know them and see their joyful humanity, deep spirituality, and enduring friendship, in spite of having often worse than second class treatment for the last five hundred years?

 The Challenge Ahead

"America, this is our moment..."

--- Barack Obama ---

History making first African American Presidential Candidate and hopefully, prayerfully the next President of the United States of America.

Now is the time for ALL good men and good women to come to the aid of the country... This election in November is going to set the course of the future for decades ahead, make sure you take part in this unprecedented revival of political honesty and integrity being brought about by Barack Obama, make sure you have some great stories to tell your children and grandchildren about how you took part in this epoch historical event.

Now is the time for ALL good men and good women to speak up on behalf of this great man who has arisen on the horizon of the continuing saga of the American Dream and indeed for the rest of the world's dreams too.

Now is the time for all good men and all good women who want to see this honorable and courageous man elected as President of the United States of America in November. So, wake up and do something more than dream of your mansions on high.

Now is the time for us all to get off our butts and do some real sharing of the vision and the hope for a better future -- for America and for the whole world -- that only Barack Obama offers in the US General Election that is with us from now until November.

Start by making a donation. <go to his website>

Then make sure you are REGISTERED TO VOTE in November

<go to his website>

Then get involved with your locality <go to his website>

Then volunteer <go to his website>

Obama is going for a 50 State Campaign, indeed for a world wide campaign when he makes his world tour in the coming weeks. Obama represents the most sweeping, the most promising breath of fresh air for democracy around the whole world that only comes once or twice is a century, we must not miss this golden opportunity to help save the world.

Make no mistake about it- this election represents a truly pivotal moment in the history of the whole world in this the 21st Century.  With the election of Barack Obama the whole world gets a chance to draw back from complete self-destruction and permanent war that Bush has brought about.

McCain/McSame/McBush will CONTINUE if elected, we simply cannot let this happen, it would be a setback for humanity that we will all pay the price for many many years into the future.

Let's get engaged, let's get involved, let's talk to our neighbors and friends in a positive and cheerful manner about how Barack Obama will bless our lives by restoring honesty and integrity and trust to the governmental process, how he will restore our national self-confidence and faith and trust in each other.

But don't jump in the gutter - keep your words clean and dignified. Win your argument with enthusiasm, win it with dignity, win with reasoned and civilized and thoughtful discussions.

That doesn't mean rolling over, it just means standing your ground without stirring up animosity. Make no mistake about it - the hate mongers are already spewing out their venom and poisonous lies and misrepresentations against Barack and Michelle.

Report them by going to the Fight The Smears Website and when anyone you speak to comes up with these crazy smears they may have heard, just point them to the Fight The Smears Website website to get the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth...

This is our time, this is our moment

 Rock Against Racism

Greetings to all Pulsers. On April 27th a carnival ( beginning at midday ) will be held at London's Victoria Park to mark the 30th anniversary of the summer 1978 Rock Against Racism concert at the same venue, which attracted an audience of 90,000+.

Steel Pulse performed at the original event alongside the Clash, Tom Robinson Band and several other bands/artists at what turned out to be a monumental occasion in the fight against fascism in the UK.

The upcoming concert will take place under the revamped banner of "Love Music Hate Racism". Entrance - just like the original - is free of charge. The organisers were trying to include as many of the original artists in the carnival but unfortunately we were unable to make it due to prior commitments.

However we've been involved in various activities in the build up to the festival including a press conference last Thursday with UB40 here in B'ham ( excerpts view on B'ham Mail and B'ham Post websites, Friday editions ) and also a multi artist collaboration song based around one of our tracks ( "Jah Pitney" ) which they hope to shoot a video for and show on the day. We and UB40 will also be doing an interview with Don Letts on Tuesday to be aired on Channel 4 TV. If you can make it to the carnival it should be a fantastic experience and one we'll all be celebrating, near and far. Peace, Love and Blessings to you all and continued thanks for your love and support.

Much Love, Selwyn D

 Mother Marley

On behalf of all the Steel Pulse family we'd like to send our sincere condolences to the entire Marley family after the passing of mother Cedella Booker last Tuesday evening April 8th 2008. Mother Booker passed away in her sleep at her home in Miami, FL at age 81.

Thank you momma for Blessing us with your warmth, generosity, your smile and your enduring spirit. You brought the Hon. Robert Nesta into this world and nurtured him to become the undisputed icon for the King's music, Reggae. I'll always remember when we performed one night back in the 1980's in Miami. She was unable to attend our show due to a prior engagement but still took the time to call us immediately afterwards and invite us to her house where we reasoned, reminisced, laughed and joked for hours. At that time Rohan was living with her and becoming a promising college football player. We saw her for the last time 2 years ago when we performed at a festival in Miami.

Rest in Peace Mother Booker and may Jah Bless your spirit always. One Love , One Heart, let's get together and feel alright. Peace and Love, Selwyn D

CEDELLA BOOKER

Sunrise 23rd July, 1926 – Sunset 8th April, 2008.

Ms Cedella Booker, mother of the most renowned reggae icon Bob Marley. This woman came from the rural countryside of St Ann, Jamaica so many years ago and made the most of life in the ghettoes of Kingston supporting young Bob.

Our hearts go out to the Marley and Booker Family. We hope you all find it comforting to know that you can treasure those valuable moments you shared with the mother/grandmother who gave birth to a legend. It is also good to know that she lived to see the seeds of a legend (her grand children) bear fruit.

The service will be held at the Garden House of The Fairchild, Tropical Botanical Gardens in Coral Gables, Florida from 19.00hrs 'til 22.00hrs, this evening (Tuesday April 15).

Long live the Marley Legacy. Nuff Respect.

In Rembrance of Mikey "Dread" Campbell

b. June 4, 1954? - March 15, 2008

Steel Pulse pays tribute to Mikey "Dread" Campbell, one of the great pioneers of reggae music. Mikey Dread, whose career spanned almost four decades, started as a DJ for JBC Radio in Jamaica.

He was exceptionally known for the new life he brought to the jingles and the "fresh off the press" records he played on his "Dread At The Controls" radio programme.

His DATC label included the works of Edi Fitzroy, Sugar Minot and Earl Sixteen, just to name a few. By the turn of the 80's Mikey Dread began collaborations in the UK with the punk rock band, The Clash, where he was introduced initially as a supporting act. He then went on to produce a collection of singles with the band.

After several dub and DJ albums to his credit (King Tubby being one of his influences), Mikey hosted and narrated a series of programmes based on reggae and Jamaican culture for British television. His contribution to expose reggae music to the various medias throughout Britain was duly noted by acts like ourselves.

Our hearts go out to the fans and the loved ones of this man and his music. Mikey, Steel Pulse bids you farewell, mi bredren. Rest in peace.

 Steel Pulse Endorses Barack Obama

Today is D-Day in America (Decision Day) and by extension the rest of the world. This year's presidential election is the focus of great attention because we are witnessing a 100 percent grassroots rebellion against the Washington DC broken government which is paralysed with corporate lobbyists who are controlling both Democrats and Republicans.

This year we are seeing giant strides forward in political maturity which allows a woman and a black man to aspire to the highest elected office in the nation breaking the mold of centuries where old white men called all the shots.

But this still should not be seen as a contest about gender and/or race, or old versus young in calendar years, but more about old fear-mongering versus new hope and inspiration and really restoring the American dream and hopes of achievement and success for everyone willing to make the effort. This is about selecting the right PERSON to take the nation forward and restore its self confidence at home and its self-respect abroad.

Barack Obama has the full support and high hopes from Steel Pulse, as the MAN, THE PERSON, who can and will help us all turn the pages of history, by bringing the country together as Americans, not dividing them into Repubs and Dems.
